Any info on the slot situation for the preview? Do we get a couple of slots? or some key which can then be "upgraded" to retail (to keep the slots and chars created), anyone?

Nope. With the advent of the ingame store, they're not fiddling with that kind of thing anymore.
But you could also make a free account just for the event if you don't want to buy a slot.

Remember* the bonus slot from the prerelease pack will NOT be available for the preview event

Sweet. this may be the time I finally convionce my friend to get guild wars. I hope they change the log in screen at that date too.

The login screen for Prophecies was changed from Ascalon Foothill Camp to Factions Sea before the FPE occured, if memory serves. Still, a new login screen would be great.

And, in response to the general fact that the NPE is on its way...

They'll probably change the login screen real soon. The pedestal was already in use when I bought Prophecies, and that was a week or two before the Factions PVE preview...

I feel sorry for new players who have to download 2Gb+ of game client for a preview weekend. I think if I was new to the game I'd like either advanced warning to start the download of the client (so I won't waste the weekend downloading or give up because it ate all of my download quota) or perhaps a "Nightfall lite" client which doesn't have the prophecies and factions stuff I wasn't going to play.

I might tell a few friends of the weekend but I'll definitely be handing round a DVD with my game client on it if they sound interested!

They better change it or I will die from waiting too long to see the nightfall one! (excluding the screen shots that I have already seen)

And I hope that they show you at least some armors and what materials are needed...
